Because no one wants their custard tasting like last week’s menthol
Ever gone to try a new flavour, only to get a weird mash-up of your last few juices? Bit of berry, bit of coffee… bit of “what even is that?”
That’s your tank crying out for a clean.
Whether you’re a casual vaper or all-in with custom builds, giving your tank a proper clean can massively improve flavour, reduce coil gunk, and keep everything running smoothly. And it only takes a few minutes once you know how.
So, let’s walk through the how, the when, and the why — and how to avoid a soggy mess in the process.
🧽 Why Clean Your Vape Tank?
Over time, e-liquid leaves behind:
- Flavour residue
- Sugary buildup
- Leaky old juice around seals
- General “gunk” that dulls your flavour
If your vape starts to taste flat, funky, or burnt even with a new coil, your tank might be to blame.
Cleaning it keeps your flavour clean, airflow smooth, and can even extend the life of your coils.
🕒 How Often Should You Clean It?
Here’s a rough guide:
Vape Style | Cleaning Frequency |
---|---|
Daily vaper, same juice | Every 1–2 weeks |
Flavour switcher | Every time you change flavour |
Sweet/dessert juices | Weekly (they gunk faster) |
Heavy use (DTL) | Weekly or more |
🛠️ What You’ll Need
- Warm (not boiling) water
- Bowl or small container
- Paper towels or lint-free cloth
- Cotton buds (optional)
If you're doing a full clean, remove the coil — especially if it’s already burnt or gunked. Most coils don’t survive water exposure.
🧼 How to Clean Your Tank – Step-by-Step
1. Disassemble Your Tank
Unscrew it completely:
- Drip tip
- Glass section
- Top cap and base
- Remove the coil (don’t clean it — replace if needed)
Lay all parts out neatly on a towel or tissue.
2. Rinse With Warm Water
Gently rinse each piece (except the coil!) under warm running water. If there’s dried juice or gunk, let the parts soak in a bowl of warm water for 10–15 mins.
Avoid soap — it can linger and ruin your next vape.
3. Optional: Alcohol Rinse for Deep Cleaning
For stubborn smells or heavy residue, use a bit of clear alcohol on a cotton bud or cloth. It evaporates quickly and helps break down sticky leftovers.
Don’t use rubbing alcohol or anything perfumed!
4. Dry Completely
Use a paper towel or cloth to gently dry each part. Then let them air dry fully — ideally overnight if you’ve soaked them. No one wants to vape leftover water.
Tip: Leave the parts upright on tissue in a warm spot — not near direct heat.
5. Reassemble and Prime Your Coil
Once everything’s dry:
- Fit in a fresh coil
- Fill with juice
- Let it sit for 5–10 mins so the coil soaks up the liquid
Then you’re good to go — fresh flavour, full airflow, and no weird juice crossover.
🚫 What to Avoid
- Don’t soak your coil — it’ll flood or burn when reused
- Don’t use boiling water — it can crack glass or damage seals
- Don’t reassemble while damp — moisture can cause leaks or coil spitback
- Don’t rush it — drying properly makes all the difference
Cleaning your tank isn’t just about hygiene — it’s about making every puff taste as good as it should. You wouldn’t drink fine wine from a dirty glass, right?
