177W Power Output

The Drag 5 has a variable wattage range of 5 to 177W, giving experienced sub-ohm vapers the headroom to push high-power builds and mesh coils hard. Output voltage reaches up to 8.4V, which keeps delivery stable even at the upper end of the range. For most everyday vaping, the majority of users will run it well below 177W, but having that ceiling available means the Drag 5 handles a wider range of tanks and coil builds without hitting a limit.

Dual 18650 Battery Configuration

The Drag 5 runs on two external 18650 batteries, which are not included and need to be purchased separately. External batteries give you more flexibility than a built-in cell: you can carry a spare pair and hot-swap them rather than waiting for the device to charge. The Smart C-Frame cover on the back of the device opens with a simple push-and-release action, removing cleanly without tools and making battery changes quick and straightforward. VOOPOO recommends using high-drain 18650 cells rated for the current demands of high-wattage output.

GENE TT 2.0 Chip

The GENE TT 2.0 chip is VOOPOO's in-house processor and handles all power management, mode switching, and safety functions on the Drag 5. It provides an ignition response time of 0.001 seconds, so there is no perceptible delay between pressing the fire button and vapour production. The chip also powers the Smart mode, which reads the resistance of the connected coil and automatically sets an appropriate starting wattage. This is particularly useful when trying a new tank or coil build for the first time.

Four Vaping Modes

The Drag 5 offers four distinct modes to suit different vaping preferences and setups:

• Smart mode: The chip reads the connected coil and sets the recommended wattage automatically. A good starting point for any new coil or tank.
• RBA mode: Full manual wattage control from 5 to 177W. Suited to experienced vapers who build their own coils or prefer to dial in power precisely.
• Temperature Control mode: Supports Ni, Ti, SS, and TCR material profiles, allowing the device to regulate temperature rather than wattage. Useful for consistent flavour and preventing dry hits on compatible coils.
• ECO mode: Reduces power consumption to 90% of RBA mode output, extending battery life without significantly affecting vapour quality.

0.96-Inch TFT Colour Screen

The colour TFT display is positioned on the front face of the device and shows all key vaping data including current wattage, coil resistance, battery level, and puff count. The screen also supports five selectable UI theme colours: Yellow, Orange, Pink, Purple, and Green, so you can match the display to your preferred colour option or simply to your taste. A vaping flame animation can be switched on or off depending on whether you want the visual feedback during use.

3-in-1 Flip Switch

Rather than relying entirely on button presses to manage lock and power states, the Drag 5 includes a dedicated flip switch on the side of the device. A single movement of this switch lets you choose between three states: locking the device entirely, locking the wattage at the current setting while keeping the device active, or switching the device on and off. This makes it straightforward to pocket the Drag 5 securely without cycling through button presses to engage the lock.

Battery Evaluation System

The Drag 5 includes a battery evaluation function that assesses the condition and charge state of the inserted 18650 cells each time batteries are fitted or the device is powered on. The system gives a clear indication of whether the batteries are suitable for continued use at the current wattage. This is particularly helpful when running high-drain cells at elevated wattages, as it flags any batteries that are reaching the end of their safe working life before performance drops noticeably.

Type-C Fast Charging at 5V/3A

The Drag 5 charges via a Type-C port at 5V/3A, which is faster than the 5V/2A rate found on many other mods in this class. Charging through the device is an option, though most experienced users with external 18650 batteries will prefer a dedicated external charger, which allows both cells to charge simultaneously and is gentler on battery longevity over time. The Type-C cable is included in the box.

510 Connection and Tank Compatibility

The Drag 5 uses a standard 510 connection, which means it is compatible with the vast majority of sub-ohm tanks, rebuildable atomisers, and drippers on the market. The mod is sold without a tank as a device-only option, so you can pair it with whatever tank suits your setup. The resistance range of 0.05 to 3.0 Ohm covers both low-resistance mesh coil tanks and higher-resistance builds.
