Vaping for Mindfulness: Creating a Calming Ritual

Vaping for Mindfulness: Creating a Calming Ritual

Matthew Abercrombie |

Because sometimes your vape break is about more than just nicotine

Let’s be honest — for a lot of us, vaping isn’t just a replacement for smoking. It’s a moment to breathe, to step away, to reset.

Whether it’s that first puff of the morning before the world wakes up, or a few quiet draws on the balcony after a long day, vaping can become something of a ritual. And when done mindfully, it can actually help you slow down and find a little headspace in the middle of a busy day.

So, if you’ve ever thought of your vape time as more than “just a habit,” here’s how to turn it into a proper mindfulness moment.

🧘 What Is Mindful Vaping?

Mindfulness, at its core, is about being fully present in the moment — engaging with your senses instead of rushing through everything on autopilot.

When applied to vaping, that means:

  • Paying attention to the flavour
  • Feeling the inhale and exhale
  • Noticing the sensation and rhythm
  • Letting yourself enjoy the moment without distractions

When I first quit smoking, my vape breaks became more than just nicotine fixes — they became my breathing space between customers, conversations, and chaos.

🫧 Building Your Own Vaping Ritual

1. Choose a Calming Flavour

Go for something that soothes you — not something overly sweet or intense.

Great options for mindfulness moments:

  • Vanilla Custard (soft and warm)
  • Mint or Spearmint (cool and refreshing)
  • Blueberry (light, fruity, not overpowering)
  • Rhubarb & Custard (tangy but comforting)

A lot of our regulars tell us they associate certain flavours with specific moods — it’s part of what makes vaping so personal.

2. Create a Dedicated Space

Even if it’s just a corner of your garden or the back step, having a regular spot for your mindful vape makes it feel more intentional.

  • Step away from screens
  • Leave your phone inside
  • Take a few deep breaths before you puff

Make it your five-minute retreat. Your break for you.

3. Slow Down Your Draw

Instead of chain vaping, try this:

  1. Inhale gently
  2. Hold the vapour for a moment
  3. Exhale slowly
  4. Notice how it feels
  5. Repeat, but don’t rush it

Let it be a rhythm — not a race.

4. Pair It with Breathwork

Vaping can naturally slow your breathing if you’re intentional with it. Try this simple box-breathing technique:

  • Inhale (with your vape) for 4 seconds
  • Hold for 4 seconds
  • Exhale (without the vape) for 4 seconds
  • Pause for 4 seconds

Even two or three rounds of this can help you feel more grounded.

5. Use It as a Moment to Check In

After your vape, take 30 seconds to ask yourself:

  • How am I feeling right now?
  • What do I need in this moment?
  • Am I vaping out of habit — or because I want to enjoy it?

Mindful vaping isn’t about turning your puff into a full meditation session — just giving yourself space to be present.

When Vaping Helps More Than Just Cravings

We’ve had customers tell us that mindful vaping helped:

  • Calm social anxiety
  • Break up work-from-home monotony
  • Replace stress snacking
  • Create a smoke-free morning routine

It’s not a magic solution. But when used intentionally, it can genuinely support better habits and mental clarity.

One of our regulars calls his vape “his pocket pause button” — and honestly, that’s the best description I’ve heard.

Parting Puffs

Vaping doesn’t have to be mindless. It can be a moment of comfort, a ritual of calm, or a gentle reminder to pause in a fast-paced world. All it takes is a little intention — and the right flavour.

So next time you reach for your kit, try slowing it down. Feel the draw, notice the taste, and take a second for yourself.
